EAST CHICAGO — One man is dead and the condition of a second man is unknown after two shootings occurred within 14 hours of each other.

The victim, Steven Davis, 20, of the 3577 block of Block Avenue, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard of a house in the 3900 block of Elm Street at 12:34 p.m. Saturday, East Chicago Police Chief Mark Becker said. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, according the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Police are looking for a suspect, a black male wearing a white shirt and dark pants, Becker said.

Officers were dispatched to an earlier scene at 7:19 p.m. Friday near the intersection of West 143rd Street and Tod Avenue, where they found a 20-year-old man who sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, Becker said. The victim made it through surgery at St. Catherine Hospital but was unable to speak, Becker said Saturday.

Anyone with information on either shooting should contact the East Chicago Police Department at 391-8400.
