GARY — A Gary officer was injured in a crash Thursday morning when a Fort Wayne woman apparently cut in front of a squad car on Lake Street, police said.
Detective Simon Lillie was driving north on Lake Street near 4th Avenue when an SUV driven by Diamond Goodwin, 20, “cut him off,” police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King said Friday.
Lillie swerved to avoid striking Goodwin’s car and hit a utility pole, King said. He was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus for treatment of unknown injuries, police said.
Police arrested Goodwin, who was wanted on a warrant issued in Allen County. She has two pending traffic cases in Lake County, a speeding ticket in Merrillville that occurred on March 21 and a citation for improper lights issued by Lake County police April 13.
Gary police cited Goodwin for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
