Updated: July 16, 2014 6:55AM

HOBART — The condition of two boys was unknown Saturday night after they were pulled out of a pond known in the neighborhood as “the pit.”

Detective 1st Sgt. Jeremy Ogden said the Hobart Police Department received a 911 call around 7 p.m. that two boys had fallen into the pond at 4040 Missouri St. Officers arrived shortly after the call and pulled them out of the water.

EMS workers took the boys to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. A spokesman at the hospital said officials had no comment on the condition of the boys.

Stacie Brooks lives near the pond and remembers playing there as a child. She was shaken by the news.

“This breaks my heart,” she said.

Neither the ages nor the names of the boys were available at press time.
