GARY — Supported by city tax abatements and state incentives, a Markham, Illinois, roof truss manufacturer is moving its operations to 7592 Melton Road, just west of Indiana 51.
Company officials were at the site Tuesday, and it’s expected to be operational in the fall. Superior Truss & Panel will invest $2.6 million to construct, equip and relocate its operations to two 24,000-square-foot buildings on 8.5 acres.
In a news release earlier Tuesday, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it offered Superior Truss up to $425,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. The tax credits are performance-based, meaning that until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim the credits.
At its July 1 meeting, the city council granted Superior Truss a personal property tax abatement for 10 years and a 70 percent real estate tax abatement for 10 years. The company agreed to pay the Gary Economic Development Corp. $23,000 toward financing economic development projects.
Superior Truss & Panel, which employs 48 full-time employees, plans to begin hiring manufacturing workers this month, and interested applicants may apply at the new Gary location or by emailing a resume to firstname.lastname@example.org, according to the news release.
“While Indiana has a business-friendly environment, Gary provides easy access to interstate highways, allowing greater convenience in shipping to multiple states,” Bryce Welty, president of Superior Truss & Panel, says in the release.
Founded in 1993, the company designs, engineers, fabricates and installs metal roof trusses and load-bearing wall panels for the commercial construction industry.
