Excise police cite businesses near Pierogi Fest

State excise police were busy this weekend at the Pierogi Fest and nearby areas, including citing five businesses.

According to a release, police also arrested or ticketed 20 people. Of those, seven charges were for minor possession of alcohol and five were for open container violation. Police also handed out three charges each of furnishing alcohol to a minor, seat belt violations and driving while suspended. They also gave out two charges of drug possession and one charge of a minor being in a tavern or liquor store.

Four businesses along the fest were cited: American Slovak Club, 1324 119th St., Whiting, was cited for no keg registration and scope of permit; B.P.O.E. 1273, 1521 119th St., Whiting, was cited for allowing carry out of alcoholic beverages; Clipper Tavern, 1225 119th St., was cited for allowing carry out of alcoholic beverages not in their original container, and the Bulldog Brewing Company, 1409 119th St., was cited for altering floor plans, according to the release.

Another business, Euclid Liquors, 3801 Euclid Ave., East Chicago, was cited for allowing a minor to loiter, sale of alcohol to a minor and failure to identify, the release said.

All the citations are preliminary.
