Lowell man held for attempted murder after melee

CEDAR LAKE — A 34-year-old Lowell man is being held for attempted murder after a melee Sunday in front of a home the 12600 block of Alexander Street where a Crown Point man was shot.
The Lowell man was taken into custody at the scene and is being held at the Lake County Jail pending attempted murder charges from the Lake County’s Prosecutor’s Office, according to Cedar Lake Police Chief Jerry Smith.
He said police responded about 9:30 p.m. to calls about people fighting at the residence and gunshots being heard. When they arrived they found nine people involved in an altercation. Lake County Sheriff’s Police assisted Cedar Lake Police in breaking up the disturbance.
Shortly after police arrived at the scene they received a call from the 32-year-old victim he was driving himself to Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point because he had been shot in the leg while at the Alexander Street residence. The victim was admitted to the hospital. His condition is not immediately available.
