CROWN POINT — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two men involved in an afternoon strong-armed robbery of an elderly woman.
The robbery occurred between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on July 27, in the 9300 block of Roosevelt Place in Crown Point as the woman was walking home from the Ultra Foods store in south Merrillville, according to James Janda, Crown Point Police deputy chief.
The suspects knocked down the woman, who is in her 80s, as she was walking and stole her purse.
Witnesses said the suspects were first observed entering the Dollar General store before the robbery. Surveillance video from the Dollar General store captured images of the suspects.
All three are described as male blacks believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, Janda said. The first subject is described to be of medium build with short hair and wearing a jeweled earring, a black Merrillville High School advanced fitness T-shirt, gray shorts and Nike Air Jordan shoes. The second suspect has short hair, a thin build and was wearing a designer dark T-shirt and white shorts. It also appears the suspect has several tattoos on his lower right arm, according to police.
Janda said the suspects fled the area in a dark colored smaller sports utility-style vehicle.
Anyone with information about the attack or the suspects is asked to contact Detective Norm Issacs at the Crown Point Police Department at 219-663-2131, Ext. 129. Tips also may be reported anonymously on the Crime Tip Line at 219-663-2131, Ext. 265.
