GARY — The school district’s citywide middle school still is Dunbar-Pulaski.
Recent Gary Community School Corp. Facebook and website posts touted a Wednesday “Meet and Greet” picnic at the “Gary Middle School,” 920 E. 19th Ave. That’s the Dunbar-Pulaski Academic and Career Academy site.
Some speakers at Monday’s state hearing on Dunbar-Pulaski’s academic probation status also referred to it as the Gary Middle School, as did fliers handed out there.
On Thursday, Gary Community School Corp. Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt said the school still is the Dunbar-Pulaski Academic and Career Academy.
“The administration has not made a recommendation to change the name of the school. If a decision is made to change the school’s name, the district will go through the proper process, including community input,” Pruitt said in a statement.
School spokeswoman Charmella Greer said an unnamed administrator mistakenly gave the name to the company that handles its website and social media.
“They shouldn’t have done that,” she said. “It was our fault collectively as a district.”
