GARY — A woman charged with strangling her boyfriend also has been charged with assaulting his other girlfriend.
Santrina Echols, 42, was charged last month with murder in the strangulation death of Clester Sims on July 13, 2013. An arrest warrant has been issued for Echols, who police say no longer lives in the area.
On the night before Sims was killed, his new girlfriend, Charla Carson, 37, was struck in the head with a blackjack during an altercation with Echols, police said. Carson told Detective Cpl. Michael Barnes she was at the Rough Riders Motorcycle Club with Sims when Echols arrived and struck her in the head, court records state.
Later that day, when Sims returned home, Echols allegedly attacked Sims and strangled him with a telephone cord, then called her sister, who summoned police to the couple’s home.
Echols will be held without bail when she is arrested.
