Victim in Hammond bar shooting dies

HAMMOND — A Hammond man who was wounded when a gunman opened fire in a bar Sunday night, died Tuesday in an Illinois hospital.

The gunman walked into Estrella’s Bar in the 4700 block of Hohman Avenue about 10:10 p.m. Sunday and started shooting, according to Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda.

Raudel Contreras Jr., 26, of the 4700 block of Henry Street, was shot in the head and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois, where he died at 2:21 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.No other injuries were reported and no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, Hoyda said.
