At least half a dozen errant shots fired inside a homemade target range traveled just over half a mile and went through a neighbor’s house and roof. Bullets ended up in the 61-year-old homeowner’s bedroom dresser, air conditioner and recreational vehicle.
The victim called police at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Fieldstone Drive, southeast of Lakes of the Four Seasons. The responding officer heard shots coming from south of the property and found three men shooting rifles behind a house in the 600 block of west County Road 350S. The fenced-in shooting area featured a dirt mound to stop missed shots and pointed at an open field, which should have been sufficient according to the police report, but it appeared several shots had missed a hanging target and gone over the dirt berm.
The shooters — the 66-year-old owner of the property with the range and two men from Lakes of the Four Seasons, ages 38 and 19 — agreed to pay restitution. The police report estimated the damage at more than $26,000.
No criminal charges were filed.
