INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Construction is expected to begin soon on a boat dock for the downtown Indianapolis canal.
City officials say the new dock will make it easier for those who rent pedal boats to climb in and out of them and prevent damage to the canal’s concrete walls. The Indianapolis Star reports city officials have awarded a $40,000 contract for the project and that work should start in early June.
Wheel Fun Rentals owner Rob Reynolds says the new boat lifts included with the dock will make for safer loading and unloading, particularly for customers with balance issues.
Pedal boats have been a fixture on the downtown canal since the late 1990s. Kayaks, bicycles and four-wheeled surreys for multiple riders also are available for rent.
