INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson has named an associate general counsel in her office as the state’s next securities commissioner.
Carol Mihalik takes the place of Chris Naylor, who resigned last month to become assistant executive director of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council. In her new position, Mihalik will lead the secretary of state’s efforts to regulate state securities.
Mihalik joined the secretary of state’s office in 2009 as associate general counsel primarily focused on complex securities litigation. Lawson says Mihalik was involved two years ago in former pastor Vaughn Reeves being convicted of pocketing millions of dollars that investors believed would be used to build churches.
Mihalik also served under two commissioners at the Indiana Department of Insurance and worked the office of the Indiana attorney general.
