Happy Birthday: Jan. 31 Barb Graham

Center Township Board members change jobs. The new president of the board is Bryan Bodamer, Kate Webster is vice president and Bub Wise is secretary. The election of Bodamer as president was easy. It went 1, 2, 3. Neither Webster nor Wise wanted to be Secretary. The problem is that the position is not just corporate secretary, but also recording secretary. I know budgets are tight, but they never raised the possibility of paying someone to transcribe the minutes from tapes. They have a tape recorder. Then they would have the verbatim minutes Bodamer had wanted last year.

Fish fry season has started. On Feb. 10, Knights of Columbus at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton with those great cooks from Lowell’s K of C will host a dinner at the church at 509 W. Division Rd. between Lakes of the Four Seasons and Valparaiso. Dinner is served from 4 to 7:30 p.m. It is all-you-can-eat fried pollock with carry outs available. Fish, potatoes, coffee, tea and lemonade are included. Costs range from $5 for children 5-13 to $9 for senior citizens to $10 for diners 14 and older. Salad and desserts will also available. Proceeds go to Knights of Columbus charities. Disclaimer: My husband Dennis is Grand Knight of this Council #7473. Other charitable fish fry notices will be listed if sent to me at least two full weeks prior to publication date.

The 911 board has hired RQAW to make the assessment of costs for new versus remodeled central 911 centers. This is very brave of the 911 board after the problems the Hanover Central School Corp. had a few years ago with RQAW. Isn’t there a local engineer–builder-developer that could keep the money spent in Lake County in Lake County? Just because the Republicans in Indianapolis are making the 911 centers an unfunded local mandate doesn’t mean that Lake County taxpayer money has to be sent to Indy for a consultant. Shame on this board.

Dan Gossman is once again part of the Region Risers, raising pledge money for the stair climb at the Aon Center this coming Sunday. They are in the Aon Step Up for Kids 2012 challenge. They are raising money for sick children at the Children’s Memorial Hospital. If interested in contributing, go to www.heroesforlife.org/site/TR?pg and search for a team and put in Region Risers. They are getting close to their goal. This year’s participants are Corrie Kaczmarek, Kelly Gossman, Hannah Gossman, Emma Gossman, Kathy Cronin, Leslie Clevenger and Team Captain Dan Gossman.

Get Well wishes to the Star’s retired photographer Gene Milkowski. On Jan. 16 he had “minor” surgery. The battery on his pacemaker needed replacement so they replaced the complete unit. In by 9 a.m., surgery at noon and home by 7 p.m. Always the smart mouth, Gene said, “I’ll be a little tender for a while but still breathing.” Please keep Gene in your prayers.

Congratulation to Kevin LaDuke. He is now a paramedic. Have a great party Kevin you worked hard for this. With the increase in pay he will be getting ... have fun shopping, Nikki.

Congratulations to the Crown Point Adult Learning Center on your new home. It is official. They are now at 928B Court St., in the Lake View Square Shopping Center. That is across from the south end of the fairgrounds. Thank you to the people that made this transition possible.
