Happy Birthday

Feb. 23: Kevin Van Sessen

Feb. 26: Pam Dolan

Jill Stochel is going to be a grandmother. Personally I think she is too young to be a grandmother. Rob “Top Hook” and Christiana Stochel are having a baby boy. He is due June 28. Rob’s mom is taking bets as to what color his hair will be. Will he have red or brown hair? I just hope he doesn’t learn how to fly out of his crib before he can walk. Congratulations to expectant mom Christiana and Andrean grad and expectant dad Rob Stochel.

Our own Scott Brandush is the new Ruling Champion of the Winter Games of the Brandush Semi Annual Ping Pong Championship of the World in Lowell. It was Scott Brandush defeating (Lowell English teacher) Terry Brandush 21-19 in the semi-finals. Scott then went on to win the double-elimination finals with the first game close but the second one a blowout. He was given his trophy and a medal made by brother Terry. Congratulations Scott, you are our hero!

The Paczki Ball was in Dyer not St. John. Dennis and I went with Paul and Dawn Long and Dale and Nancy Waters. We all had fun at this Knights of Columbus fund raiser.

Lexiphiles: One who loves playing with words!

You can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish.

I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger … then it hit me!

When fish are in schools they sometimes … take debate.

When the smog lifts in Los Angeles . . . U.C.L.A.

We would all be better if we all prayed: “Give me a sense of humor, Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke. Help me to get some humor out of life, and pass it on to other folks.”

Mayor Dave Uran was in Washington D.C. on Feb. 14 for the National Association of Regional Conferences (NARC) to meet with the delegation that represents us. If he says he is from NARC, he does get some strange looks.

May 26 is the third annual Illiana Mayfest, hosted by Crown Brewing. They will be raising money for The Arc. It will be in the Industrial Building at the fairgrounds with lots of beer tasting (over 80 different beers from Indiana and Illinois) and help for The Arc. Visit www.thearcnwindiana.com for more information.

Correction: In a story on Jan. 26 I mistakenly identified the bank at which City Council President Andrew Kyres works. He works for First Financial Bank and is at the Broadway and U.S. 231 location.
