After writing that Lowell’s Brandon Grubbe (2010) was on the roster at Butler University, I was informed that must’ve been an old roster because Grubbe, Northwest Indiana’s all-time leading rusher, has moved on to the football team at Indiana University.

Now listed as a linebacker, Grubbe is also listed as a sophomore, which would mean he has three years eligibility for the Hoosiers, who begin the 2012 season Sept. 1 at home against Indiana State.

The NAIA Robert Morris University Eagles begin their second varsity season Saturday when they play at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich.

Sophomore linemen Jay Trappani (2011) and Dominick Rebesco (2011) of Lowell are both on the roster and Trappani, a starter, has been named a third-team NAIA pre-season All-American.

The former Red Devil had 4 1/2 sacks for RMU last season. The strength and conditioning coach at RMU, which was 4-4 in its debut season last fall, is former Lowell star Toby Goetz (2005).

Robert Morris University plays home games at Morris Field in Arlington Heights, Ill. where they’ll kick it off Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. against Olivet College.

Kurt Monix (2008) is being counted on in his senior season at Wabash College.

The former Lowell quarterback and kicker caught 52 passes for 544 yards last season as a wide receiver.

Manchester opens the 10-game 2012 regular season Tuesday night Aug. 30 on the road at Trine College in Fort Wayne.

Manchester has four if its five offensive linemen back this season and if they can find a quarterback, Monix, who was an all-Heartland Athletic Conference choice in 2011, could have a big year.

Kirsten Nitraut, who scored 33 goals for Hanover Central last fall, is on the roster at Purdue-Calumet for PUC’s first ever varsity soccer season.

Nitraut, who had a career total of 58 goals, played all four years at Hanover and was the 2011 MVP of the sectional championship team. PUC opens plays Saturday at Bethel College at 12 noon.

PUC may be competitive quickly as they have Maxine Rossler, a Junior College All-American from Wabounsee Valley junior college (72 goals in two years) and Caytin Lewin a two-time junior college All-American defender from Joliet Junior College in the first recruiting class.

Purdue-Cal will play three times at Munster high school including games against Manchester on Sept. 16, Grace Bible College on Oct. 20 and Madonna College on Oct. 28.
