It is nice to drive where there are no pot holes. First Ryan Fleming, the new manager of the building the Star is located in, put new blacktop on his private parking lot behind this building. That is so nice. Thank you Ryan. Now the city put new blacktop on Court Street between Clark Street and Robinson Court. Thank you.
Thank you to the Stewards of the Square for the beautiful flowers in the pots around the square. It is nice that the Parks Department waters them.
St. John the Evangelist Parish’s Health Ministry will host its 7th Annual Flu Vaccination Clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the Church Narthex, located at 10701 Olcott St. John, IN 46373 Ave. There will be a $20 fee, payable by cash or check and Medicare, too. Vaccines are limited and registration will be required in order to reserve your vaccine. Registration begins Aug. 18 and continues through Friday, Sept. 7 in the Parish Office at 11301 W. 93rd Ave., St. John. It is possible that some additional serum will be available for walk-ins, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Sept. 8 & 9: History weekend at Indiana Dunes State Park from French-Canadian voyageurs of the 1700s in dress, food and lifestyle, Native American flute music, day and sunset events. Standard park gate fee apply of $5 for in state and $10 for out-of-state vehicles. Indiana Dunes State Park is at 1600 North 25 E. Chesterton, 46304.

Sept. 21 :The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra’s season opens with “A Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles” at 8 p.m. at the Star Plaza Theatre. Tickets range from $10 for students to adult tickets from $25 to $65. Call 836-0525 and you can have your first experience or relive the sounds of those four Brits that invaded the US.
StandUp for St. Jude House is 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Radisson Star Plaza. This corporate fete includes a gourmet dinner, signature cocktails and bar and the Improv comedy show.
