CROWN POINT — On Sept. 10, the Plan Commission approved a primary subdivision plat to consolidate a number of small lots into one on the northwest corner of Indiana Avenue and North Street. The Family Express company intends to build a gas station and convenience store there.
According to Director of Community Development Curt Graves, the location has been made up of a number of tiny lots created by the old railroad that went through the property. It is the section from the intersection to the end of the storage facility’s north fence line, where the semi tractors and trailers are parked now.
Jeff Ban from DVG engineers represented Family Express. He said it is much easier to make use of the land if these multiple lots, created over 100 years ago, are cleaned up and made into one lot.
Ban told the planners that he would be back in October with a secondary plot and site plan.
Graves said the address would be 880 E. North St.
When Councilman Bill Feder asked about sidewalks, Ban said, “Our intention is to put on both North and Indiana.”
He said Family Express wants to have the building up and the business running by the end of 2012. The building will look like the Family Express in the Aberdeen subdivision near the city of Valparaiso.
