Dec. 30: Abby Long is 10 years old today.
Jan. 2: Mary Joan Dickson and I am not telling how old today.
Thank you to all of my friends and family for putting up with me for the past year. Follow politicians long enough and sarcasm is part of your daily life. Bless you one and all.
Dec. 28 is the last day to submit applications for the Crown Point Rental Registration and Inspection Program. Go to the Planning & Building Department on the south side of City Hall at 102 East Clark St.
The end of an era has come. Curt Graves has signed his last document for the City of Crown Point as Director of Community Development. His previous title was Director of Planning and Building.
For over 20 years he has made four different mayors look intelligent. Graves never publicly jumped up and down telling mayors and Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and the historic commission members they have to do something “my way.” He would always say “you can vote anyway you want to vote, but this is my recommendation.”
Builders and developers were used to toeing the line. There were no exceptions. But if they did it right the first time around, they didn’t have to tear it up and do it all over again.
Why does the city look better and why is built better than some surrounding communities? Because of Curt Graves. The city will miss Curt’s duck BBQs.
