Crown Point went a long way last Thursday in search of a Duneland Athletic Conference basketball victory.

They didn’t find it.

On Senior Night, LaPorte never trailed after the first minute topping Crown Point 63-48 in LaPorte County.

The Slicers led 32-27 at the half and 40-31 midway through the third quarter, but the final score was a bit misleading as LaPorte (5-13, 3-9 Duneland Conference) was 10 of 10 from the foul line in the fourth period.

CP (5-12, 2-10 DAC), which has been held to 57 points or less 14 times this season, again had problems putting the ball in the basket.

LaPorte outscored the Bulldogs 19-9 over the final five minutes as the Bulldogs lost their fifth consecutive league game.

Josh Fleming scored 19 to lead LaPorte, which was 22 of 26 from the foul line. Tommy Bardeson scored 13 and Bret Barclay added 12 for the Bulldogs.

Crown Point hopes to get back on track this weekend with a road game at Portage Friday night and the annual matchup with South County rival Lowell (8-10) Saturday.

Both dates begin with the junior varsity game at 6 p.m.
