The cooking for the Knights is all being done by the KC men from Lowell.

Thank you John Shelhart for your years of service as the chief of police of Lowell. Chief Shelhart resigned on March 4 and his last day will be March 16. He will be missed.

Crown Point received approval from the state for the entire city budget for 2013. That means that all the city full-time employees will get a $1,000 bonus this year and both Mayor Dave Uran and Clerk-Treasurer Patti Olson will receive two percent raises. This is the first raise they both have had in years.

Compromise is not a dirty word, unless it means cutting my $20,000 per year Social Security by 10 percent and not cutting all the personal and corporate wealth in the country by 10 percent also. I guess I would be able to learn to live on $18,000 somehow, if I knew that the fat cats that have $2 billion in wealth will be living on $1.8 billion and that their $0.2 billion will be joining my $2,000 and only going to pay off what we owe to us. That’s right, the biggest part of that debt is in U.S. bonds purchased by the Social Security Administration, with our own money. China is not the biggest creditor — we are.

Safe Sitter baby-sitting class from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point, 1201 S. Main St. in the Marian Education Center. For students 11-14, the cost is $60 and registration is required by calling 757-6368.

March 17: The St. Patrick’s Day Parade — just three days away. I can hardly wait. No one else has a nighttime parade. From Noon to Night from Fire Department to on the Square. Good family fun.

On Wednesday, March 20, the Town of Cedar Lake Blood Drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Town Hall, 7408 Constitution Ave. Call 374-7000, Ext. 124 to schedule and appointment, but walk-ins are also welcome. Photo ID required. All blood donors will be treated to a BBQ pulled pork sandwich.

March 21: College Fair at Andrean High School from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Admission repress from over 50 colleges and universities will be there for questions. Admission topics, financial aid, and college application procedures. The program is free & open to all area high school students and parents.

7 p.m. Friday, March 22; 1 p.m. Sunday, March 24; and 3 p.m. Friday, March 29 (Good Friday), St. Matthias Catholic Church, 101 W. Burrell Dr., Crown Point, is hosting its third annual performance of “The Living Stations” in the Church. This is a production of the youth and young adult ministries. All are welcome.

March 24 is Palm Sunday. March 28 is Holy Thursday and the start of the Triduum. March 31 is Easter Sunday.

The Crown Point Fire-Rescue Canine Unit is continuing to get ready for K-9 Jake’s arrival and they still need some help in building some agility equipment. They need lumber, hardware, barrels and other items. If you think you can help, give them a call at 662-3248, Ext. 0. They also have a big list of equipment to purchase. Just remember, you or someone you love may need to be rescued some day. It will be nice to know that our own firemen will be able to get to you faster, because Jake found you.
