CROWN POINT — Lake County Commissioners last week approved purchase of five new trucks from Pozzo Truck Centers to replace three 23 year-old trucks and two 22 year-old trucks.
The county will buy four tandem-axle dump trucks at $188,326.87 each for a total of $753,307.48. In addition to those trucks, the city also ordered a single-axle smaller dump truck for $177,522.57.
According to Lake County Highway Superintendent Mark Malczewski, these trucks will be purchased with proceeds from an earlier bond issue.
The old trucks will be kept and used for parts to repair other trucks in the fleet.
Malczewski said, “These trucks run all year long and take quite a beating. They are not used just for seasonal work.”
