Fair to pay city for paramedic coverage

Updated: July 1, 2013 2:23AM

CROWN POINT — The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a contract April 17 with the Lake County Fair to provide Fire and EMS Service at the 2013 fair.

Service is provided by off-duty firefighter/paramedics officers

The firefighters provide on-site coverage to the unincorporated fairgrounds. They have been doing so the last 15 years.

The contract amount of $24,295 reflects the same wage per hour that is in the current city budget for hourly wages of city firefighters.

There was also a second contract that requires more personnel for special events because of the additional size of the crowds or because the activities are dangerous. That contract is for $2,685 and is also for pay to the off duty firefighters.

The city is not making any money on either of these contracts.
