CROWN POINT — The Board of Public Works and Safety on May 8 approved the recommendation of City Engineer Tris Miles to forbid parking on both sides of North Street from Main Street to Hoffman Street.
The board approved the recommendation unanimously.
Miles said the ban was needed because streets in the old part of the city are too narrow to allow parking and the safe passage of traffic.
That stretch of North Street runs along the Cal Ripken baseball league field, making it a very busy place during the spring and summer.
Miles said the potential danger to children became apparent during the city’s recent maintenance work on the street.
Homeowners in the area will receive notices about the change, he said.
