CROWN POINT — The Lake County Commissioners on June 5 let it be known that they expect Lake County Treasurer John Petalas to use money in his department’s budget to pay for additional attorney fees.
Petalas requested an amendment of a consulting contract between John Pangere and the commissioners on his behalf. He wanted to be able to pay Pangere up to $25,000 more per year, over and above the existing contract, at the rate of $90 per hour.
Commissioners’ attorney John Dull said that Petalas had more than enough money out of the $700,000 he received from the auction to pay this out of the treasurer’s budget.
All three of the commissioners agreed with Dull.
The commissioners also accepted the letter of resignation from Jeffrey F. Gunning as the Republican attorney for the Lake County Board of Elections.
His replacement should be named at the June 18 meeting of the Board of Elections, according to Patrick Gabrione, assistant director of the board.
