CROWN POINT — It will not be long now. Apartments are being reserved, kitchens are being readied, drywall is being hung and in many places in the building the walls are already being painted .The New Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care facility, 140 E. 107th Ave., will be open by the fall. A grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 14. Bickford is just north of the Strack & VanTil grocery store at the corner of Broadway and 109th Avenue. This is the first of three Bickford Communities now being developed in Indiana. Almost one third of the apartments are already reserved. The buy in to join is a single $5,000 up-front community fee. After that, it is monthly rental on the individual apartments.

Tony Ughetti is the branch director.

In a way it is a homecoming for the Ughetti family. Tony and his wife Dolores (nee Krieter) were married at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Hebron in 1991. She graduated from Crown Point High School. Her parents, Jerry and Joan Krieter, who now live in Crown Point, are glad to see them home.

Prior to coming here Ughetti worked at a skilled nursing facility in Huntsville, Texas as administrator. According to Tanya Planer, Bickford’s Community Relations Director, Ughetti and his team won the Health Services Management Regional and National Nursing Center of the Year award in 2011.

“I feel very blessed to return to Indiana to assist with opening and ultimately operating the Crown Point branch,” Ughetti said.
