CROWN POINT — Was it a bird or a plane? While he was not jumping over tall buildings in a single bound, or flying through the air, the Caped Crusader, Commissioner Gerry Scheub, came into the room in his bright red cape on Sept. 4 to the astonishment of all at the meeting.

The commissioners usually have a good sized gathering at their meetings. This was one of the smaller agendas so not as many people were there witness to the event.

Scheub walked around handing out flyers for the “Kids in Capes” walk or run this Saturday, Sept. 14 at Lake County Fairgrounds. This event will benefit Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids, or NICK, Foundation.

Scheub was inviting everyone to bring the family out for this non-timed, non-competitive fun walk/run.

According to the flyer, participants will “Fight villains along the course: Villains will be lurking along the 2K, to all non-super heroes that is 1.25 mile course. It is up to your little superheroes to defeat them. Successful heroes will receive a Special Award at the ‘Hall of Heroes’!”

Online registration is open through 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at www.HometownHappenings.net. The cost for adults is $15 and $10 for kids 12 and under. On race day the charge is $25 for all ages.

The event includes live performances by HGS Music and music played by D.J. Donnie. Light refreshments will be provided from Carriage Court Pizza. Capes and “superhero weapons” will be available for purchase.
