CROWN POINT — The Tree Board looked over a preliminary set of planting plans for a new Dunkin Donuts restaurant at its Nov. 6 meeting. This was a workshop so no formal plans had been submitted to this city committee.
Dave Patel, the owner of the Dunkin Donuts, is looking at building in Crown Point Crossing, just south of the Speedway at North Street and Broadway. The front of this lot is on Broadway and Superior Drive. There is an existing road cut off of Broadway that separates the Speedway gas station from this property. Access into this new donut shop will have to come off of that drive that runs west from Broadway to Superior Drive, or from Superior Drive.
Since Broadway is State Route 53 all access is determined by the Indiana Department of Transportation and it is not looking at having a lot of curb cuts on their road.
Every project that comes into the city has to go through the Tree Board for a recommendation to the Plan Commission on the amount and species of plants used around the property and building.
At a workshop, the petitioner is looking for input from the committee as to what is needed when they come in with a final proposal.
Councilwoman Carol Drasga, R-5th, sits on the committee and told Patel that the city wants trees, as opposed to bushes and shrubs.
“We have to have big trees,” committee member Matt Lake said.
