‘Pygmalion’ comes to Hammond stage Feb. 24-March 11

Hammond’s Genesius Guild will present its production of the musical theater classic “My Fair Lady” from Feb. 24-March 11.

The show is based on George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” the musical story of Professor Henry Higgins and his student Eliza Doolittle.

Directed by David Long with musical direction by David Markley, the Genesius Guild production’s cast includes Grant Fitch, Betsy Archer, Gary J. Mion, Chuckles C.L. Brady, Leslie Evans, Kay Wagmen, Dan Ball, Phillip Culbertson, Pat Pohrte, Lisa Remmers, Andy Leahy, Pamela Mitchell, Angie Lowe, Larry Hinken, Ed Griffith and Andy Leahy.

March auditions

The Portage Community Theatre will hold auditions of its upcoming production of “Over the River and Through the Woods” at 7 p.m. March 5 and March 6.

In “Over the River,” Nick, a young advertising executive, struggles to find the right moment to announce a great career move to his paternal and maternal grandparents. When he finally summons up the courage to tell them that the new position is in Seattle, the stage is set his grandparents’ ingenious counter plan in the form of an appetizing dinner guest, Caitlin O’Hare.

The production of “Over the River and through the Woods” will be directed by Stanlee Hodsden and will run in June.

The Towle Theater has announced auditions for the suspense comedy “The 39 Steps” on March 10 and March 12.

Adapted from the novel by John Buchan and from the Alfred Hitchcock film, “The 39 Steps” is a mix of a juicy spy novel with an added dash of Monty Python.

“The 39 Steps” is the story of a man with a boring life who meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale.

Jeff Casey will direct the Towle production and the show will run in May. Auditions will be at the theater, 5205 Hohman Ave. in downtown Hammond. Call 937-8780 for information.

The Dunes Summer Theatre will hold auditions for its June production of the musical “1776” on March 24 and March 25 at the First Congregational Church at 531 Washington St., Michigan City.

Directed by George s, “1776” is the musical retelling of the drama surrounding the birth of our nation.
