This summer will mark the 50th anniversary of the Ross Music Theatre. M & M Productions will salute the occasion with a special show featuring highlights from the past 50 summers of shows.

The special event will be held at M & M’s Center Stage Studio Theatre in Hobart and will include a multimedia celebration with live performances, videos, slides and pictures of past productions.

Many of the talented performers from the past 50 years will make appearances and it will be a great time to catch up with old cast mates or your favorite performers.

Performances will take place from May 17-19 and 24-25. Call 947-4922 or go to m-mproductions.com for reservations or more information. The Center Stage Studio Theatre is at 227 Center St.

In July, Ross Summer Music Theatre will present it’s 50th summer show “Les Miserables” at the Reinhart Auditorium at Merrillville High School. Auditions for “Les Miserables” will be at 7 p.m. May 26 at the Reinhart Auditorium. Call the number above for more information about auditions.

New performance space in Valparaiso

The Chicago Street Theatre will unveil a new performance space this weekend.

“A Picasso,” a play written Jeffrey Hatcher, will be the first production in the intimate Edith B. Wood Studio, a 40-seat space on the second floor of the theater.

The show will run from May 10-18.

The play is set in 1941 Paris and revolves around painter Pablo Picasso being summoned by occupation forces for interrogation by Miss Fischer, a beautiful “cultural attache” from Berlin.

When he discovers that Nazis plan to burn three of his paintings, he begins a desperate plea to rescue his work.

“A Picasso” also marks the first collaboration between CST and The Genesius Guild, of Hammond.

CST resident playwright Jim Henry, who is serving as the liaison for the partnership, is coordinating activities between the two theaters. He said it marks the first in what CST plans to make an annual tradition of co-producing a play with another theater in Northwest Indiana.

The director of “A Picasso” is Ed Griffith, of Genesius Guild, and the show was cast from auditions at CST.

The cast of this two-person show is Maggie Reister-Walters and Larry Hinken.

The Edith B. Wood Studio is on the second floor of Chicago Street Theatre, 154 W. Chicago St., Valparaiso.
