Steven Dietz’s play “Becky’s New Car” will be the next production at Chesterton’s 4th Street Theater, running from Nov. 8-24.
Becky Foster is a woman caught in the middle of life with tomorrow looming as just another day when a millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where she works.
Suddenly new opportunities are presented, and choices have to be made. The new car becomes a metaphor for a new life as this comedy explores the roads taken or not.
Directed by Linda Pauli, the cast includes Stephanie Rice, Matt Stinnett, Nathan O’Brien, Donald Beck, Amy O’Brien, Jerry Golvidis and Laura Blythe.
Also, the 4th Street Theater has announced auditions for its production of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12-13 and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19.
The dark and entertaining musical tells the story of a London barber who murders his customers and has them baked into pies.
Glenn Hering will direct the production with musical direction by David Markley.
Those auditioning are requested to prepare 16 measures of a song of their choosing.
“Sweeney Todd” will run from March 15-April 12.

Crown Point Community Theatre will conduct auditions for its 2014 production of “Godspell” from 3-5 p.m. Nov. 9 and 7-9 p.m. Nov. 10.
Directed by Becky Jascoviak and featuring music by Stephen Schwartz, “Godspell” is a modernized retelling of the Gospel according to St. Matthew.
The score features songs like “Prepare Ye (The Way of the Lord)” and “Day by Day.”
“Godspell will run from Jan. 31-Feb. 15 at Crown Point Community Theatre, 1125 Merrillville Road.
Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 bars in a contemporary rock or jazz style and bring sheet music in an appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided.
Cold readings from the script also may be requested. The script is the 2012 Broadway revival edition.
Jascoviak said her vision for the show is “a contemporary upstart rock band tour. It will be set completely contemporary with references to ‘I am the 99 percent’ and government shutdowns and threats of war in Syria.
“The cast will be in black and grays and silvers. The set will be a unit set of a band on stage with lots of colored lights and such. There will not be heavy choreography but more band-style choreography.”

Hammond’s Genesius Guild will conduct auditions for its winter production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic Broadway musical “Carousel” from 7-10 p.m. Dec. 9-10 at First United Methodist Church of Hammond, 6635 Hohman Ave.
Directed by Ed Griffith with musical and vocal direction by Jay Gianotti, this well-known musical features the songs “If I Loved You,” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Those auditioning should prepare 16 bars and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.
