Chicago Street sets ‘Red Licorice’ cast

The cast has been announced for the production of “Red Licorice” at the Chicago Street Theatre in Valparaiso.

The show is a series of monologues performed by young actors who interact with one or more imagined characters.

Written by Carole Tippit and directed by Lisa Formosa-Parmigiano, the cast includes Liz Bianco, Julia Dooley, Auriel Lark Felsecker, Grace Gass, Casey Lowenthal, Forrest McCollum, Cierra Payton, Mitch Paxton, Annie Penman, Scott Perkins, Kevin Perry, Samantha Prevost and Kyleah Rocchi.

“Red Licorice” will run Feb. 24-March 23 at Chicago Street Theater, 154 W. Chicago St. Call 464-1636 for reservations or more information.

Auditions planned

The Hammond Community Theatre and Beatniks on Conkey have announced auditions for “Vagina Monologues” from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 15.

Written by Eve Ensler, the “Vagina Monologues” is a series of monologues that range from comedic to serious, as read by a number of actresses. This production will coincide with Valentine’s Day.

This is a great opportunity for women who have never been on stage or who are looking for a chance to return to the stage. There will be a short rehearsal period, and the performances are Feb. 11 and 12 at Beatniks on Conkey, 418 Conkey St., Hammond.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. There is no memorization required for this production as the performers will read from the page during the show. The number of performers is to be determined.

‘Osage County’ cast

The 4th Street Theater in Chesterton has announced its cast for the upcoming production of Tracy Letts’ drama “August: Osage County.”

Directed by Steve Rohe, the cast includes Kathie Rosdil, Maggie Reister, Lisa Woodruff Hedin, JoBeth Cruz, Peyton Daley, Sarah Laurinas, Helena Taft, Earle Howe, Jeff Zimmerman, Scot MacDonald, Ric Heath and Lewis Jones.

“August: Osage County” premiered at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre in 2007 and went on to a successful Broadway run in 2008 and 2009. It is a dark comedy about a dysfunctional family struggling with drug and alcohol abuse amid a family crisis.

The play was awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

“August: Osage County” will run March 16-April 1 at the 4th Street Theater, 125 N. 4th St. Call 926-7875 for reservations.

The 4th Street Theater will host Northwest Indiana’s only improvisational comedy group this weekend.

Disposable Theatre will perform at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 13 and 14. Tickets are $8; seating is limited. Call 299-9508 for reservations or more information.
