Brew Fest
The Southern Shores Brew Fest, sponsored by Northwest Indiana Sports and Entertainment Inc., features live entertainment, food and beer from local breweries, Oil City Stadium, 1700 19th St., Whiting. Admission is $30 per person.

Calumet Astronomical Society invites the public to explore the wonders of the universe. Volunteers guide visitors in the use of telescopes and astronomical binoculars as they observe the majesty of the skies at the Conway Observatory, 3606 Belshaw Road, Lowell. Admission is free.

Cowtoberfest

Sheriff’s House, Jail tours
The Old Lake County Jail and Sheriff’s House, 226 S. Main St., Crown Point, were built in 1882. The jail is known for John Dillinger’s escape in 1934 and a location for filming of the movie “Public Enemies” with Johnny Depp. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.

Haunted Railway Garden
The Railway Garden at Taltree Arboretum, 450 W. County Road 100N, Valparaiso, is looking a little ghoulish this October. Spooky trees and creepy crawlies are taking over the rail lines. Snacks and cider available in the depot. Admission is $10 for nonmembers; free for members and children under 4.
