Gilliams celebrate 50 years

Marvin and Cora Gilliam of Flint, Mich. recently renewed their wedding vows in a private ceremony at Van Buren Baptist Church.

Their nephew, Rev. Darryl McDonald, pastor of Douglas Park Baptist Church, Chicago, officiated. Walter Gilliam, brother of the Marvin Gilliam, was best man. Lucinda Smith, sister of Cora Gilliam, was the maton of honor. Attendants from Farmington Hills, Mich. were Marlin and Daryl Gilliam, sons of the couple, and Marlise and Lawrence Gilliam, the couple’s grandchildren, and great-niece Jasmine Smith of Gary. Culer Gilliam, 99-year-old mother of the Marvin Gilliam, was also in attendance.

The couple graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in 1959. They are retired teachers from the Flint and Mount Morris, Mich. school systems.

The couple married at Van Buren Baptist Church on Sept. 21, 1963.
