Valparaiso boasts
a wealth of talent

Valparaiso coach Wayne Lichtenberger has the kind of problem that every school wished it could have.

He has six really good players and the best player in Northwest Indiana.

Even though it’s a good problem, it’s still a problem he has to deal with on a weekly basis.

That means every week, three players — Alexander Pancek, Tyler Doane and Andew Gariup — tee it up in a playoff. Top two guys get to play. Last week, at the Rensselaer Invitational, Pancek and Doane played. Doane shot a 78 —one of four scores that counted toward the Vikings’ total of 292.

Kyle Meihofer and Bobby Jacobs are two of the top players in the area — with Meihofer, who will play next year at Illinois State, well ahead of anyone around here. Jacobs is in the tier right below Meihofer with several other golfers in the area.

Valparaiso will be the clear favorite this week at the Uebele, which will tee off at 1 p.m. Friday at Beechwood. The Uebele is the oldest golf tournament in the state.
