Alleged fake cop was real Porter County officer
Despite warnings given by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department earlier this week, a fake police officer did not pull over a woman north of Valparaiso and warn her against reckless driving and speeding.
A Porter County Sheriff’s Department officer reported to the department on Wednesday that he made the traffic stop, between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Saturday on North Calumet Avenue, while off-duty.
The driver called police early Sunday about the incident, after recalling the man who stopped her was not in uniform and his car had no markings.
At the time, the Sheriff’s Department had no record of the stop and police dispatchers contacted all local departments, finding no official stops had been made in that area in that time frame.
