Indy bus crash victims’ fathers speak of grief
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The fathers of a couple killed in the crash of an Indianapolis church bus say their hearts are broken and words cannot express their grief.
Colonial Hills Baptist Church pastor Charles Phelps, the father of crash victim and youth minister Chad Phelps, and Russell Gaddy, the father of Courtney Phelps, to reporters Wednesday at the church just one mile from the scene of Saturday’s crash.
Charles Phelps says the two families have found comfort in each other during their time of grief.
The crash also killed church member Tonya Weindorf and injured dozens of others on the bus, including the Chad and Courtney Phelps’ nearly 2-year-old son, Chase.
The family of bus driver Dennis Maurer released a statement Wednesday saying the loss of their friends has been “extremely painful.”
