If the Pacers truly are the team to beat in the Central Division this upcoming season, the Bulls will become very acquainted with them early on.

The 2013-14 NBA preseason schedule was announced on Thursday afternoon, and the Bulls will open it up at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Oct. 5, facing off against the defending division champions.

The game against the Pacers will be the first of eight preseason games for the Bulls, including three neutral site games in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 7 against Memphis, Oct. 12 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, against the Wizards, and in Wichita, Kan., facing Oklahoma City on Oct. 23.

Andrean to hold fundrasier: Andrean football is hosting a fundraiser to kick off the football season at 6 p.m. Aug. 9 at the American Legion 1401 N. Main St. in Crown Point. Summer-casual attire. Catered menu and drinks are included — plus music, free wine tasting, raffles, auctions and more. Adults only.

Merrillville to host golf outing: The Merrillville High School football team will hold its inagural golf outing at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at Summertree Golf Course. Lunch will be provided around 1 p.m. and there will be raffles that will all benefit Merrillville football.

Chelsea wins Indy exhibition: Oscar and Eden Hazard scored first-half goals, leading Chelsea to a 2-0 victory over Inter Milan on Thursday night in a quarterfinal match at the Guinness International Champions Cup.

Despite not starting four of its stars that played in the Confederation Cup, including Brazil’s David Luiz and Spain’s Juan Mata, Chelsea nonetheless at times looked to be in midseason form in the exhibition match before a crowd of 41,983 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Hazard’s came on a penalty kick in the 29th minute.

Colts cut two players: The Colts waived Baylor guard Robert Griffin and injured linebacker Scott Lutrus on Thursday.

Indy replaced those two by signing guard Danous Estenor and center Thomas Austin.

The 6-foot-3, 307-pound Estenor started 23 games at South Florida including 11 last year when the Bulls averaged 432.8 yards in total offense and led the Big East in fewest sacks allowed.

Austin, at 6-4, 310, played in seven NFL games with Carolina and Houston. He originally signed with Minnesota in 2010 and spent most of that season on New England’s practice squad.

Griffin was the New York Jets’ sixth-round pick last year but did not make the team.
