TERRE HAUTE — A caboose built in Terre Haute in April 1914 has been restored and is now on display at the Wabash Valley Railroaders Museum.

The N6b ‘cabin car’ was initially used in regular freight service but later served as a playhouse and as site for birthday parties.

The Tribune-Star reports that the car fell into disrepair and was deemed unsafe for visitors. The city donated it to the Haley Tower Historical and Technical Society in 2006.

The society took on the restoration, and the car was displayed at the museum Sunday. The caboose is believed to be the last surviving cabin car built in Terre Haute.
