Kirk Muspratt, conductor and music director of the Northwest Indiana Symphony, answers questions in advance of the Holiday Pops! concert.

What is your favorite piece on the holiday concert this year?

— Nathan in Lowell

Wow! Such a hard question. How can you make me chose between “Total Praise,” “King of Kings” and “Amazing Grace”?

However, since you are asking me to choose, I want to tell you I think that it will be a piece called “Hymne des Fraternises.” For the first time at the holiday concert, I am going to show a clip from a film called “Joyeux Noel” and it is about creating peace at the time of our holidays.

The music from the film is entitled “I’m Dreaming of Home.” The orchestra, the chorus and the children from Eisenhower Elementary School in Crown Point will perform this together and I am thinking that this might be my favorite piece on the program.

Are Santa, the reindeer and the elves going to be at the holiday pops concert this year?

— Liam in Schererville

Santa has promised me that he certainly will be at the concert this year. We are playing a brand new arrangement of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” just for him.

He had better be there, eh?

The reindeer will also be there, but usually Santa asks them to stay up on the roof of the Star Plaza Theatre, ready to go, as Santa only has a few minutes to visit with us.

The elves will not be with us as Santa has told me that they are way, way behind in getting all the presents made for the children this year. He says that they all have to stay at the North Pole and even work overtime!

Is it true that there is a new place to meet you now after the concerts at the Star Plaza Theatre?

—Wendy in Crown Point

Yes, it is true. Starting this season, I have been going over to the right side of the hall, by door 9, and saying “hello” to as many people as possible after the concerts.

If you go around the main hallway, all the way to the right (the east side), you will find me.

I would very much like to meet you and your family, answer any questions you have, hear what you have to say about the performance, and in the case of our next concert, wish you a very happy holiday!
