Mistrial declared in case against Muncie pastor

MUNCIE (AP) — A judge declared a mistrial after jurors said they were deadlocked on the two most serious charges against a Muncie pastor accused of seducing two teenage boys.

A new trial for 55-year-old Matthew Kidd was scheduled for May 21.

Jurors in Delaware Circuit Court were unable to reach a verdict on charges of child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor. Jurors acquitted Kidd of a charge of vicarious sexual gratification.

The pastor of Freedom Point Apostolic Church was accused of abusing two teenagers between 2002 and 2005 while they were members of his congregation.

Prosecutors said Kidd had abused the boys’ trust.

The defense attorney said there were no other witnesses and no physical evidence.
