No injuries  reported in fire at prison

Updated: March 1, 2012 8:35AM

CARLISLE, Ind. — Firefighters from three departments took about two hours to extinguish a fire in a laundry unit at a southwestern Indiana prison.

The Greene County Daily World reported that no injuries were reported in the blaze Friday night at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, about 35 miles south of Terre Haute.

Sullivan Fire Department Chief Rob Robertson said the fire was isolated in the laundry building away from inmate housing, and no evacuations were necessary. Firefighters from Haddon Township in Carlisle and the prison’s fire department also responded to the fire.

The state fire marshal is investigating the blaze. The cause wasn’t immediately known.

Officials said the prison that has about 2,000 inmates was under lockdown Saturday.
