INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Democratic Party chairman says the party’s lawyers are working on a court filing asking a judge to replace convicted Republican Secretary of State Charlie White with the Democratic candidate whom White defeated in the 2010 election.
A Hamilton County court on Monday scheduled a Feb. 23 sentencing hearing for White on his six felony convictions, including lying about his address on voter registration forms. A jury reached that verdict early Saturday.
State Democratic chairman Dan Parker says he’s not certain when a Marion County judge will be asked to enforce his December ruling that White wasn’t an eligible candidate and that Democrat Vop Osili be declared the election winner.
Republicans maintain GOP Gov. Mitch Daniels should name a replacement if White is permanently removed from office.
