LAFAYETTE (AP) — The father of a Monticello eighth-grade student who was told by school officials he could be punished if he continued to wear a bracelet promoting breast cancer awareness by using the word “boobies” has filed a lawsuit in federal court.

The lawsuit filed Monday by the ACLU of Indiana on behalf Jeremy Glander of Monticello contends his son was told by officials at Twin Lakes School Corp. that he could not wear a bracelet that says “I (heart) Boobies” because it violates the district’s dress code and he could be expelled.

A telephone message seeking comment was left Monday for school Superintendent Tom Fletcher by The Associated Press.

The lawsuit says the eighth-grader wants to wear the bracelet to be an advocate for breast cancer awareness and prevention.
