GREENTOWN (AP) — A central Indiana school district has downsized its planned wind turbine after the Federal Aviation Administration raised concerns about the height of the project that would generate power for the district’s schools.

Eastern Howard Schools announced plans last year to build a wind turbine up to 350 feet tall next to a water tower in Greentown, about 10 miles east of Kokomo.

The turbine would have been nearly twice as tall as the water tower. But Eastern Howard Schools superintendent Tracy Caddell said Monday that the FAA is requiring the district to downsize the proposed turbine.

Caddell said he now hopes to place a 287-foot turbine either on land the school already owns near the water tower or someplace else.
