MONGO (AP) — Authorities say a man found dead at a state wildlife area apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A state conservation officer found the man’s body Wednesday in a wooded area at the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne.
Park employees summoned the officer to an area near the town of Mongo after noticing that a car had been in a parking lot since the beginning of the week. The conservation officer tracked the signs of a person walking into the woods for about 200 yards, where he found a man lying dead.
A preliminary investigation indicates the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man’s death remains under investigation and his name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
