Updated: February 14, 2012 9:02PM

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indianapolis police officer has surrendered following a standoff in a city park with his fellow officers.

WRTV-TV reports the officer was on duty and became distraught and threatened to kill himself Tuesday morning following a conversation with his girlfriend and then went to Tarkington Park on the city’s near north side.

SWAT officers negotiated with the officer for several hours before he surrendered early Tuesday afternoon. Several streets in the area were cordoned off.

Police didn’t immediately release the officer’s name.
