Fort Wayne shoplifters confronted; use stun gun on guard

Updated: February 17, 2012 10:37PM

FORT WAYNE (AP) — Fort Wayne police are searching for two shoplifters who fled a store with their haul after using a stun device to jolt a security guard who confronted them.

Officer Raquel Foster says a Kroger security guard stopped a man and woman Thursday who had been shoplifting and was directing the woman into an office when the man used the stun device to jolt him.

The Journal Gazette reports that the pair then fled the store with the stolen items.

Foster said the guard, who did not need medical care after being stunned, had confronted the couple as they were exiting the store with stolen merchandise hidden in the woman’s backpack.

Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the couple from still images obtained from the store’s surveillance cameras.
