OWENSBURG (AP) — State police say a man who allegedly shot two sheriff’s deputies investigating a domestic disturbance was found dead in a southern Indiana residence hours after a shootout with police.

Sgt. Curt Durnil says neither of the Greene County deputies wounded in Wednesday’s shootout suffered life-threatening injuries.

But about two hours after 25-year-old Michael Lane Jr., allegedly fired his last shot at police, Lane was found dead inside the Owensburg-area home about 20 miles southwest of Bloomington.

An autopsy will determine if Lane was fatally shot by police or if he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Durnil says Lane opened fire when officers arrived about 10 a.m. Wednesday to investigate a reported domestic disturbance and exchanged gunfire with officers for about 10 minutes. Lane was alone in the residence.
