Heat advisory issued as near-record heat returns

A heat advisory is in effect as another heat wave blankets the Chicago area with near-record-breaking temperatures.
The hot and humid weather that blanked the northern Great Plains and Upper Midwest with humid air that is 10 to 20 degrees above normal remained in Chicago on Monday, with temperatures reaching 97 degrees at O’Hare, according to the National Weather Service.
As a result, the weather service issued a heat advisory for the Chicago area that will be in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The record high for July 16 is 100 degrees set in 1887.
The temperature is expected to reach 98 degrees on Tuesday then drop into the mid- to upper-80s the remainder of the week, the weather service said. The record high ofr July 17 is also 100 degrees, set in 1940.
The weather service advises people drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and in an air-conditioned room, and check on neighbors.
